About Craig

Before Matchstic, Craig studied music business in college and worked for an artist management company representing bands on major labels. The lesson that stuck with him from those years became the foundation for Matchstic: the music is nothing without the business, and the business is nothing without the music. That conviction shapes the work he's drawn to today, partnering with growing companies whose leaders treat brand as a force that moves the business forward.

Two decades in, what surprises Craig most is the repetition. Most companies circle back to the same handful of questions, and two come up most.

The first is clarity. As companies grow, acquire, and add products and services, the way they tell their story gets convoluted and how they go to market gets confusing. Craig's work is helping leadership teams say who they are clearly enough that it rallies employees and pulls customers in.

The second is distinction. Most companies feel safer fitting in with their competition than standing out from it. They're afraid of being different. Craig sees it as Matchstic's job to help them push past that fear and find the version of themselves worth defending.

After 20+ years, the tools have changed but the work hasn't. The most rewarding moments still come at relaunch, when a company emerges with more clarity, more confidence, and a stronger position to compete from. That moment of transformation is what keeps Craig in this.

“Great brands aren't born. They're uncovered, shaped, tested, and lived.”
