The Art of CalligraphyPosted by Christina Ketmayura on April 24, 2013 Share
As designers, it's easy to get in a rut where we are stuck behind the computer, pushing pixels around. So it was a HUGE treat when we got to have Anne Elser come and teach us copperplate calligraphy!
What is most fascinating about calligraphy is that it has to do little to do with "good handwriting". It takes patience, practice, and precision. We are drawing, not writing. Every letterform is made up of a series of strokes, but once you master the base strokes, you can build every letter from it. As Anne says, "Every letter lives within a letter".
So how does this apply to us at Matchstic?
We are always striving to improve our craft and we believe that investing time into something that may seem as minor as "letterforms" will greatly influence the outcome of our work.
