Letterpress
The letterpress together with movable type is considered one of the greatest inventions of all time. Like any great invention, it became a platform for other creative endeavors. It revolutionized book making and laid the foundation for the democratization of knowledge. A essential precursor to an information society. You would not be reading this blog today were it not for movable type then. For 400 years the process remained relatively the same. Ink applied to type, pressed on paper. The artistry of it's mechanized ancestor is still amazing to see.
