Smart Signs

Digital signage is taking over.

Printed billboards, bulletin boards, information kiosks and signs are being reinvented. Take a walk through Wal-Mart these days. Grocery stores used to have little coupons that would spit out as you walked by. Just stepping stones. Now there are motion activated plasmas running little promos for the products around them. Any number of products, any number of promos, no extra cost. Some gas stations now have a screen at the pump running point of purchase interactive ads. Interactive digital ads are what's next. They're just smarter signs. And on that note, this is a brilliant idea.

"Not so sure how safe this is on the interstate. That gigantic bright as the sun lit ad of George Lopez has about driven me off 75/85 south multiple times, and it doesn't even move! Will be interesting to see if the proliferation of these types of ads could one day require legislation to allow for safe driving. Although it is amazing how close we're getting to the type of ads that were in Minority Report."

"I agree! I want to see the digital newspapers from Minority Report in-action."

"I avoid Shell gas stations (or at least regret it when I end up at one). Those ads are so invasive and annoying, particularly the screens blaring local news channels. I'd just like to pump my gas in peace."

"I love this "smart sign" by American Eagle at their Times Square store. I purchased a hat there and was able to take a photo that was shown on loop on the street for the entire day. Incredible way to interact with and payback their customers:
