Why do we need $5M? Couldn't we get some of the local artists looking for an outlet for their work to place their works for sale in the space? This would create a great place to display work as well as provide a place for local artists to earn money. (International travelers are more likely to have the disposable income needed to purchase high caliber art.)

I agree with Dustin. Art serves a higher purpose than just functionality. It's to uplift the human experience. Without it we are just drones. I don't mind paying more for the experience or even to just support the attempt. Not everything has to have a monetary purpose. I think that's were America gets a little lost.

Art has often been a function of society & culture - paid for not just by the wealthy, but often times by the state. Keeping things merely functional suggests that we only really need something to work. But the things that bring us enjoyment are not weighed in such black and white terms. Art serves a purpose, one that I don't mind paying $3 on my next flight to see created.
