Competition

In 1927, there were two watchmakers side by side, store by store, competing for the market share in the hustle and bustle of New York's Diamond District. One finds away to innovate and better serve his customers, the other fears change. One wins. One loses.

Today however, there are 7,640,000 results on google for "watchmaker". How in the heck do you compete with that?

Competition has birthed out the need for branding. The need to be different, to be distinct, to be memorable. It is a self-medicating accountability system, not allowing you to sit on the couch and pack on the pounds (after all it is almost bikini season). As complex as it is, it's a good thing.

Do you embrace your competition? Are you bold enough to blog about them? To tweet about something awesome they are doing?

If your positioning is distinct enough, what could it hurt?
