We started the OTH program for two reasons. First, we wanted to focus on one deserving non-profit and make a huge impact on that organization. Second, we believe in bettering our city. We want to use our gifts and talents to empower those who are doing good in the place we call home.
Last year we selected The Swift School and dramatically transformed their brand from the inside out, with a total of over $100,000 in donated services. From brand strategy to web development to a new brand identity, they are now equipped to make a greater impact in their quest to help children with dyslexia in Atlanta. We will be posting the final case study on our site soon, in the mean time check out Laura Ries’s blog entry.
This year we decided to forgo the interview process, as it was too hard to say “no” to so many amazing organizations (and only “yes” to one). More importantly though, we found the perfect fit for OTH and didn’t need to look any further. This year we have selected Atlanta Union Mission.
The Mission serves as many as 1,070 men, women and children every day of the year with emergency shelter, residential recovery and transitional housing, as it is the city’s largest homeless initiative. With a new leadership team it is poised to have an even greater impact on this city. I truly believe they are a sleeping giant and only need a spark to come alive.
Personally, I’ve had the privileged to serve with the mission for a few years and since my time there I’ve heard stories of redemption that would bring sailors to tears. Homelessness is an overwhelming issue to take on, but AUM IS changing lives… just watch the video below.
