Extroverts & Scooter Wrecks

I’m an introvert. People tell me my battery charges best when I’m alone, so going on a cruise with 70 entertaining extroverts would be a mistake right? Well, not this time.

This past weekend Craig and I went with the entire Boosterthon Fun Run team to Port Canaveral bound for the Bahamas. It was three days of all you can eat buffets, non-stop stories, push-up contests, and amazing vision casting by the Booster leadership team. From sessions on “Battles that must be won” to “War Horses” to personal testimonies, I was very inspired every step of the way.

While at our stop in Nassau we rented scooters. I’m an avid scooter rider, riding one to Matchstic almost everyday, so I was more than up for the adventure. After waiting for a good thirty minutes and then getting the bottom of the barrel scooters (mine had duct tape on the seat and my right hand brake was broken to a mere nub), we were poised for take off. Before we could get going, a rider in our group, who I won’t name, gassed the scooter and relentlessly shot off like a rocket directly into the side of a building. We hadn’t been on the scooters for five minutes and had already crashed. Luckily the rider was fine and we dusted off the scooter to finally get going.

About three minutes into our grand adventure, amongst a busy and hectic street, another rider in our group (me) had a helmet malfunction when it flew off my head and bouncing down the street like a heat seeking missile. In true Mario Kart fashion my red helmet exploded on the front tire of the rider just behind me. The direct hit not only managed to bring his scooter to a screeching halt, but it also caused the scooter directly behind him to slam into him as well. Both went down. Bike parts, stopping motorists, and shattered egos everywhere. The results were two damaged bikes, a flat tire, the loss of a muffler, some cuts and scrapes, and one amazing story to tell.

Sometimes in branding you have to just stop and tell a good story.
