Are CD’s Dead?

design_gal02_20080115.jpg Last week Apple announced their new line of laptops, The MacBook Air. The biggest change besides the fact that it weighs less than some steaks and will fit into a standard office envelope, is that there is no disc drive. Is this a signal to the end of CD's? Apple's brand could be powerful enough to make CD's obsolete. The same way they did with floppy discs when they introduced the iMac, the first major computer to not have a built in floppy drive. Now you can't find a 3.5 disc unless you saved your old copy of Oregon Trail.

"You have to think about this in regards to what apple is doing as a whole. This product is genius. They're trying to push digital media. CDs are on the way out. just a matter of time. As internet speeds get faster, physical media will become more and more obsolete. This product reinforces their iTunes music, movie download system and goes great with the new movie rental system. Digital rentals is the best idea ever. You'll never forget to return that DVD!

Anyway, aside from Apple's overall brand. This laptop is a bit gimmicky and is not very practical for most users... especially considering its cost/advantages/disadvantages vs the macbook (which is already really portable)."
